3 - The bodyshell.
This is one of the critical steps for the good build of a model.
To obtain a good painting you must firstly prepare the bodyshell, refining all the imperfection, the molding injection and the eventual material porosity. Don't forget to make the hole for the mirrors, the antenna and other hard to place parts, with the 1mm. drill.
Then clean well all the surface with the nitro tinner, to perfectly degrease the bodyshell.
After that apply a primer coat, which will let you see other small imperfection not viewable on the metal.
Eventually refine this last ones, and if the case, apply a second thin primer coat.
At dry-up complete ( at least 6 hours ) apply a first coat in the colour given in the instruction sheets.
Eventually apply a second coat.
To obtain a good painting, are essential the temperature and umidity conditions, and also the cleanness and the absence of dust flying around.
Several models require a bicolour painting, because not easy realizable with decalcomanias.
For this models proceed this way :
- apply the primer coat as in normal painting at point 3.1
- paint the bodyshell with the lighter colour ( or harder to mask ).
- mask with body-maker adhesive tape the part not to be covered with the second colour.
- proceed with painting the darker colour.
- wait for dry-up and remove the adhesive tape, paying attention at the colours joint point.
The glass outline can be realized with matt black humbrol and painted with 00 brush.
Also they can be finished two ways: filling the groove, or leaving it empty. In this case
the exceeding paint can be removed soon with a diagonally cutted toothpick.
Also paint with matt black all the inside of the bodyshell.
Note: shake and mix accuratly the matt humbrol paints, and make a test before starting on the model.
A not well mixed paint may became not-matt and reduce the look of your model.
To obtain a better glass placing in the bodyshell, we suggest to cut and refine accuratly every glass alone, leaving a border to easy the sticking, larger in the upper part of the bodyshell.
Stick the glass with bostick and let dry-up the bodyshell leaving it upside-down.
Don't forget to insert every eventual grill or radiator from the inside if present..
